Hell's Backbone Road.......May 5th....

A short post today as although spectacular scenery it was very difficult to capture in photos...
Love this gnarled old tree with the vortex effect of the winds on it's trunk...
The Hell's Backbone Road was 30 miles off road driving up through the forested areas with some heavy washboard parts...as stated before not our favourite but sometimes a little discomfort is worth the stunning views...
Before the SR 12 was constructed this was the main highway from Escalante to Boulder, built once again by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in the 1930's.....we can imagine the old Model T Fords bouncing their way along the road...
The view from the bridge....
1000ft drop....
And out lunchtime sandwich spot.....
And back along the Scenic route 12 and the incredible area of slick rock...don't think we can ever tire of this view and the winding road down to Calf Creek....
Our home base at Escalante....the RV park is a work in progress as a new park in the making but loads of space and surrounded by the natural beauty of the area so no complaints...
Next post soon...
The Bounced About Campers....
